Revert Chrome Downloads to Bottom Bar – Changes from August 2023 Update
Google has made a notable change in its most recent update. Chrome’s downloads have now shifted to the top tray on the right corner of the toolbar, from its original location as a larger bottom bar. This new layout resembles the layout seen in Edge and other browsers. This modification is now in effect following the August 2023 update for users utilizing macOS, Windows, and ChromeOS platforms.
This download location update may prove inconvenient for certain users, particularly those who are accustomed to downloading files and promptly transferring them to other destinations, such as cloud storage services. Nevertheless, Google contends that this repositioning of the download bar will enhance user efficiency in monitoring and swiftly accessing their downloaded content.
If you’d still like to switch it back and revert the Chrome Downloads back to the original Downloads bar, it’s easy! (and for now, it’s still possible)…
Here’s how to revert your downloads location from the top right to return to the bottom bar:
- Copy and paste the following into the Chrome address bar:
- chrome://flags/#download-bubble
- Within the first section labeled “Enable download bubble,” change the drop-down selection to “Disabled”
- A prompt to Relaunch Chrome will appear in the bottom, click it.
- Voila! Your downloads are back at the bottom. Enjoy!
